meet Our FOUNDER

MELISSA NOEL
Founder
Melissa Noel is an award-winning Guyanese American media entrepreneur, journalist, and producer reshaping how the world sees Caribbean and African Diaspora communities through storytelling that is culturally precise, commercially powerful, and built to last.
As Founder & CEO of Mel&N Media Group, Melissa leads a strategic communications and multimedia production company trusted by legacy media brands, travel brands, cultural institutions, and international agencies across the globe. Built to close representation gaps in global media and expand the global footprint of Caribbean and African Diaspora storytelling, the agency has generated major international coverage, elevated underrepresented narratives, and demonstrated that authentic representation is both a moral imperative and a business advantage.
Through Mel&N Media, she develops campaigns, original productions, and live events, including Destination Diaspora®, a global travel docuseries tracing the movement and transformation of African culture across continents, which won the inaugural BET+ Passport to Storytelling competition at the 2025 Black Travel Summit in Brazil.
Melissa built Mel&N Media alongside a nearly two-decade editorial career at the forefront of journalism.
As Senior News & Travel Editor at ESSENCE Magazine, she led editorial strategy across digital and print, expanding coverage of politics, global Black leadership, heritage, wellness, and travel while helping shape the publication’s approach to Caribbean and diaspora storytelling. She also served for four years as an Editorial Lead for ESSENCE Festival of Culture, producing programming for ESSENCE Authors and the Global Black Economic Forum, using editorial insights to shape live events and experiences at the largest cultural festival in the United States.
At Documented NY, Melissa served as Caribbean Community Editor, where she led editorial strategy and community engagement initiatives amplifying the voices of Caribbean immigrants in New York City. In addition to overseeing content development and original reporting, she led community engagement initiatives that amplified voices and ensured coverage was responsive to the lived realities of the communities she served.
As a Contributing Reporter at NBC News, she created the award-winning Love in a Barrel series, an investigation into the Caribbean’s “barrel children” and the long-term mental health impact of parental migration. Her reporting has also appeared in National Geographic, ABC News, and regional broadcast outlets across the Caribbean, where she covered culture, climate, commerce, and tourism.
A Pulitzer Center grantee, Ethel Payne Fellow, two-time NABJ Salute to Excellence Award winner, and Diaspora Journalist of the Year by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (2024, 2025), Melissa graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University and holds a Master’s in Journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
She is building institutions — not just stories — and advancing a model of media entrepreneurship where cultural integrity and business strategy move in lockstep.
